Taboola GLP-1 ads can run with Taboola’s approval. Healthcare, weight loss and online pharmacies are restricted, and the pharmacy rules open with “Have prior permission from Taboola.” Ads may promote licensed online pharmacies with gated prescription access. They can’t sell the drug directly, and in the US they can’t make drug claims or “Generate a lead to purchase prescription drugs.”
Policy checked on October 29, 2026.
Taboola now sells ads through Realize, “Taboola’s new ad platform” (July 20, 2025), so its policies sit on realize.com. The rules below apply to any GLP-1, GLP 1 or GLP1 telehealth offer.
What Taboola’s policy says about prescription drugs and online pharmacies
Taboola’s Restricted Content page (last updated April 27, 2025) says “The promotion of healthcare products, services and content is restricted” and, separately, “The promotion of online pharmacies is restricted on the network.”
The online pharmacy section sets these conditions:
- Campaigns must not “Promote the direct sale of prescription pharmaceuticals.”
- Campaigns must not “Direct consumers to ungated content that allows a consumer to buy prescription medicine online.”
- Purchasing of prescription drugs must “Be gated through user sign in,” “Require a user to have a valid prescription from a doctor” and “Provide a physical address and telephone number within the US.”
- “Online pharmacies advertising in the United States must be verified by the National Association of Board of Pharmacies (NABP - state board of pharmacy) and employ a licensed pharmacist to answer consumer questions.”
The US country section adds two limits on prescription drug ads. They must not “Generate a lead to purchase prescription drugs” and must not “Make any claims about a drug.” The Prohibited Content page (May 29, 2025) repeats the direct-sale ban and states the route in the same entry: “Ads may promote licensed online pharmacies with gated access to prescription medication.”
Taboola’s prior-permission clause for GLP-1 and telehealth brands
Taboola’s policy describes an approval path in its own words. The first line of what online pharmacy campaigns must do reads: “Have prior permission from Taboola.” Its Health & Beauty FAQ (May 28, 2025) says products that need pre-approval and launch without it get rejected, “most commonly in medical services, medical tests, online pharmacies, vaccines.” For those, Taboola tells advertisers to “ask your account manager or support to know more.”
None of the four Taboola policy pages cited here uses the word “telehealth” or “LegitScript” (full-text check, October 29, 2026). The two buckets that come closest to a GLP-1 telehealth brand are online pharmacies and medical services. Taboola names both where it describes pre-approval, so permission from Taboola comes before anything else.
We run GLP-1 and telehealth traffic at scale with platform approvals on every network we buy. On a call we go through what that means for your brand’s offer and funnel.
Taboola rules mapped to GLP-1 ad elements
Each part of a GLP-1 telehealth campaign maps to a Taboola clause. Wording is quoted from Taboola’s policy pages, checked October 29, 2026.
| Ad element | Taboola’s wording | For a GLP-1 campaign |
|---|---|---|
| Selling the drug in the ad | Must not “Promote the direct sale of prescription pharmaceuticals.” | Not allowed |
| Lead form tied to buying the drug | US: must not “Generate a lead to purchase prescription drugs.” | Not allowed |
| Drug claims | US: must not “Make any claims about a drug” | Not allowed. Build creative around the service, not the drug |
| Purchase flow | “Be gated through user sign in” and “Require a user to have a valid prescription from a doctor” | Required |
| Pharmacy credentials | US online pharmacies “must be verified by the National Association of Board of Pharmacies (NABP - state board of pharmacy)” | Required where the offer is an online pharmacy |
| Weight amounts in titles or thumbnails | Must not “Include specific weight loss amounts” | Not allowed |
| Body images in thumbnails | Must not “Include images of obese people.” | Not allowed |
| Before and after on the landing page | Landing pages may “Include before/after representations” but must not use images “deemed racy (bikini, underwear, etc.), suggestive or fake-photoshopped” | Allowed with limits |
| Landing page disclosure | “Disclose that weight loss is achieved as part of a healthy reduced-calorie diet and exercise program.” | Required |
| Testimonials | Landing pages must “Use verified testimonials.” | Required if used |
| Diabetes mentions | Must not “Mention diabetes (allowance may be granted on a case by case basis).” | Not allowed unless Taboola grants it |
| FDA approval claims | Must link “on the landing page to the FDA approval of the advertised product.” | Required if claimed |
| Advertorial landers | “Advertorial” written clearly across the top of the page | Required for editorial-style pages |
| Audience | Must not “Target sensitive groups - minors, disease carriers, persons with disabilities, etc.” | Not allowed |
The FDA approval row matters most for compounded GLP-1 offers. The FDA states that “compounded drugs are not FDA approved,” so a compounded product has no approval to link to. Our guide to misleading GLP-1 ad claims the FDA has flagged covers the wording to avoid.
What a GLP-1 brand still brings to a Taboola campaign
Taboola’s conditions fall on the brand, its purchase flow and its landing pages. A GLP-1 telehealth brand still brings:
- Licensing that Taboola names. For online pharmacy offers, the NABP verification and licensed-pharmacist line quoted above. For medical services, Taboola’s FAQ asks for “Company registration details or valid license for medical services.” Brands preparing for several networks can compare requirements in which ad platforms require LegitScript.
- A gated purchase flow. Sign-in, a valid prescription, and a US address and phone number on the site.
- Clean claims. No disease cure claims (“Claim to prevent, cure, reverse any disease” is barred), no weight amounts in titles, and the diet-and-exercise disclosure on the landing page.
- Honest landers. An “Advertorial” label on editorial-style pages, and disclosed paid endorsements.
If you also run Meta, its weight-loss ad policy overlaps on body images and results claims.
Common reasons GLP-1 and weight-loss ads get rejected on Taboola
Taboola’s Health & Beauty FAQ lists the rejections its content review team sees most. These are the ones that hit GLP-1 campaigns:
- Products that need pre-approval launched without it: “Products requiring policy pre-approval prior to campaign launch get rejected.”
- “Claiming specific weight loss amounts in creatives.”
- Missing the diet-and-exercise disclosure, which the FAQ calls “mandatory.”
- “Unrealistic or photoshopped before and after images.”
- “Claims about diseases or conditions instead of symptoms.”
- “Falsely claiming that the product is recommended by a healthcare professional.”
- Editorial-style pages without “Advertorial” written in prominent lettering at the top.
For questions about a rejection, the FAQ points advertisers to their account manager, support@taboola.com or live chat in Realize. Outbrain, another native network, publishes its own rules, covered in our Outbrain GLP-1 ads guide.
FAQ
Can you advertise GLP-1 on Taboola? Yes, with Taboola’s permission. Taboola’s policy names online pharmacies and medical services among the categories that need pre-approval. US ads can’t sell the prescription drug directly, generate a lead to purchase it, or make claims about it.
Does Taboola require LegitScript for telehealth ads? The Taboola policy pages cited here don’t mention LegitScript. For US online pharmacies, Taboola’s text names NABP verification instead.
Are Taboola Ads and Realize the same thing? Realize is Taboola’s ad platform. Taboola’s help center describes the move from ads.taboola.com to ads.realizeperformance.com (July 20, 2025). The advertiser policies live in the Realize help center.
