TikTok GLP-1 ads: policy, rejections and suspensions

TikTok GLP-1 ads sit under two US policies. Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals says prescription medicine “may be allowed” with proof of approval and certification from regulators such as the FDA, and only for adults 18+. Weight Management bans exaggerated or guaranteed weight-loss claims. A rejected ad and a suspended ad account each have their own official appeal route.

Policy checked on October 29, 2026.

Pick your branch:

  • If one ad or ad group was rejected: read the reason on the Disapproved label, then fix it or use One Click Appeal.
  • If the whole ad account is suspended: go to Account Health and appeal within TikTok’s deadline. Don’t open new ad accounts.
  • If the status says “Qualification required” or “Qualification not approved”: TikTok hasn’t received your industry qualifications, or rejected them.

What TikTok’s US policy says about GLP-1 and telehealth ads

TikTok’s Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals policy (last updated September 2026) has no separate telehealth line for the US. A GLP-1 telehealth ad touches three of its US entries, plus the Weight Management policy (also last updated September 2026).

US policy entryTikTok’s wordingWhat it covers for a GLP-1 brand
Prescription medicine“May be allowed if the following requirements are met: Provide proof of approval and certification from appropriate local regional regulating authorities, such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)” and “Restrict the ads to audiences aged 18 years or older”Any ad that promotes a GLP-1 drug
Pharmacies“Provide proof of certification by a third-party licensing organization, such as the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) or LegitScript, or regional equivalent”Brands that dispense or sell medication online
Medical institutions“Comply with local laws and regulations.” “Certifications from appropriate local regional regulating authorities may be required.” 18+The telehealth service and its clinicians
Weight management (US and Canada)“May be allowed subject to age restrictions, applicable local licensing requirements, and full compliance with all advertising policies”Every weight-loss message, drug or not

The Weight Management page doesn’t name GLP-1 drugs or injections. Its rules cover the ad and the landing page alike: “Ad content and landing pages for weight-related products and services must not include exaggerated or harmful weightloss or muscle gain claims.”

Why some sources say TikTok bans GLP-1 ads

The ban claim traces back to a real TikTok statement. In July 2023 a TikTok spokesperson told STAT the company does “not permit ads for weight loss drugs or supplements.” That was an emailed statement to a reporter, not a policy page.

TikTok’s written US policy, last updated September 2026, reads differently. Prescription medicine is “May be allowed” with FDA-level proof, and weight management “may be allowed” with age limits and licensing. Most other markets in the same table still say “Not allowed” for prescription medicine. TikTok’s pages don’t say when or why the US wording changed, so we can’t date the change. For a US campaign, the dated policy page is the text to work from.

How TikTok handles approvals for restricted health categories

TikTok treats self-serve accounts and accounts managed with a TikTok Sales Representative differently. For some restricted health categories, the policy says to “Work with a TikTok sales representative to determine eligibility and obtain permission to run ads.” In the US that line sits under weight-loss surgery on the Weight Management page, not under prescription medicine, so it isn’t a GLP-1 rule. Managed accounts also get their own appeal path. After a failed One Click Appeal, TikTok tells them to “Reach out to your TikTok Sales Representative,” and for account appeals “your sales representative can submit an appeal on your behalf through our internal system.”

TikTok also checks industry documents. “Qualification required” means “Your industry qualifications have not been submitted.” “Qualification not approved” means “Your industry qualifications were rejected. Please review the reason for rejection and resubmit, if relevant.”

We run GLP-1 and telehealth traffic at scale with platform approvals on every network we buy.

The brand still brings the FDA-level proof and licensing TikTok names, LegitScript certification or NABP where a pharmacy is involved, 18+ targeting, and claims that pass the Weight Management rules and FTC and FDA standards on misleading ad claims. For which networks ask for LegitScript and which don’t, see LegitScript requirements by ad platform.

What to do when TikTok rejects a GLP-1 ad

When TikTok rejects a GLP-1 ad, open the reason first. TikTok says “you’ll get a notification about any policy violations that led to our decision,” and in Ads Manager the reason sits behind the Disapproved label on the Campaign tab. TikTok then gives three options: “edit your ad to solve any issues caused by policy violations, create a new ad, or appeal the decision.”

Appeal when you believe the ad follows the rules. TikTok’s One Click Appeal (last updated March 2026) works like this:

One Click Appeal ruleTikTok’s wording
Response time“TikTok aims to provide a response within 24 hours, but may take longer in rare cases”
Description“mandatory and accepts up to 2,000 characters”
Evidence“up to 5 items in PNG, JPG, or PDF formats, 10 MB each”
Editing“You cannot edit an Ad Group or Ad after you have submitted a One Click Appeal”
Limit“Please only file one appeal for each incident”
If it failsSelf-serve: “Submit a ticket.” Managed: “Reach out to your TikTok Sales Representative.”

For a GLP-1 ad, put your certification and licensing in the evidence slots. If the rejection was right, rebuild the creative and fix the landing page together.

What to do when TikTok suspends your ad account

A TikTok ad account suspension stops every ad. TikTok’s suspension page (last updated June 2026) says “All ads under the suspended ad account will be stopped,” and it ties suspensions to Account Health: “If your Account Health status is Poor, your account will be suspended.” The One Click Appeal page adds that while an account is suspended, “you cannot submit appeals until the suspension is lifted.”

Check the deadlines on day one:

StepTikTok’s rule
First violation“you’ll have 30 days to address the issues with your ads or ad account or submit an appeal”
After 30 days“If these issues remain or your appeal is rejected after 30 days, the suspension will be permanent”
Where to appealAccount Health page, Suspension Details, then “Click Submit Appeal”
Ticket routeHelp icon, Ad Assistant, Submit ticket, Account/Ad Review, Account Review, Account Suspension Appeal
Reply time (ticket)“within two business days of submitting your appeal”
CutoffNo review if you don’t appeal “within 180 days after your account was suspended”
Duplicates“the system prevents duplicate appeals from being submitted for the same issue”
New accounts“Avoid creating any new ad accounts while your appeal is being reviewed”

If the Suspension Details point at healthcare or weight-loss content, show in the appeal what you changed in the ads and landing page, and which documents you hold.

New patients don’t have to wait for TikTok’s decision. Our other channels (Meta, Outbrain, our comparison sites, our affiliate network and our influencer network) can keep them coming while the appeal runs. See how we run paid media.

Before you launch: a TikTok checklist for GLP-1 telehealth

Run this before the first TikTok GLP-1 campaign goes live, and again before you scale:

  • Industry documents uploaded and showing as approved, not “Qualification required.”
  • Certification ready for the parts TikTok names (FDA-level proof, LegitScript or NABP for pharmacy).
  • No drug name or drug price in the creative.
  • Every ad group targets 18+.
  • No “easy,” “guaranteed” or “without diet or exercise” claims, in the ad or on the landing page.
  • No body shaming and no ideal-body framing.
  • The landing page says what the ad says, nothing stronger.

How this fits a wider channel mix is in how to scale a GLP-1 telehealth brand.

FAQ

Can you advertise GLP-1 on TikTok in the US? TikTok’s US policy lists prescription medicine as “May be allowed” with proof of FDA approval and certification and 18+ targeting. Weight-loss messages also have to pass the Weight Management policy.

What happens if a TikTok ad account is permanently suspended? For a first violation, TikTok makes the suspension permanent if the issues remain or the appeal is rejected after 30 days. TikTok says that decision can’t be appealed.

Can I open a new TikTok ad account while my appeal is reviewed? TikTok advises against it: “Avoid creating any new ad accounts while your appeal is being reviewed.”
