Meta prescription drug ads policy for GLP-1 telehealth brands

Meta’s prescription drug ads policy lets a GLP-1 telehealth brand promote semaglutide or tirzepatide on Facebook and Instagram only with active LegitScript certification and authorization from Meta. Ads may target only adults 18+ in the US, Canada or New Zealand, and only where the brand is certified. Ads that only promote telehealth services generally need no written authorization.

Policy checked on October 24, 2026.

What Meta’s prescription drug policy says

Meta’s prescription drug policy limits Rx ads to certified, authorized advertisers. The Guidelines on Meta’s Drugs and Pharmaceuticals page read:

“Qualified advertisers that are actively certified with LegitScript can run ads that promote prescription drugs as long as they:

  • Only target people in eligible countries (United States, Canada or New Zealand)
  • Only target people in countries in which they are certified
  • Only target people 18 years or older
  • Obtain authorization from Meta”

Advertisers must also add a disclaimer “to consult a licensed health professional or obtain a valid prescription” and have “completed the Meta onboarding process for prescription drugs.” On Meta’s page those two conditions sit, confusingly, under a heading about ads that don’t need authorization. The Help Center is clearer: “Promoting prescription drugs is not allowed without authorization from Meta.”

Which GLP-1 ads need Meta authorization

Any GLP-1 ad that promotes a prescription drug needs Meta authorization. Meta’s Help Center lists two exceptions: ads that only educate or advocate, and ads that only promote “telehealth services generally.”

GLP-1 ad typeMeta authorization required?Meta’s wording
Education or public service ad about GLP-1 drugs, with no offerNo“Educate, advocate or give public service announcements related to prescription drugs”
Ad that only promotes your telehealth serviceNo“Promote telehealth services generally”
Ad offering semaglutide, tirzepatide, Wegovy or ZepboundYes, plus LegitScript and the disclaimer“Promoting prescription drugs is not allowed without authorization from Meta”
Ad listing a GLP-1 drug’s priceYes“Listing the price of the prescription drug” is on Meta’s list for authorized advertisers
Compounded GLP-1 offerYes, if it promotes the drugMeta’s Rx pages set no separate rule for compounded drugs
“GLP-1 program” ad with no drug namedNot definedMeta doesn’t say where “telehealth services generally” ends

Don’t read the undefined row as permission. If an ad presents a GLP-1 drug as something the brand provides, treat it as a prescription drug ad and get authorization before it runs.

GLP-1 ads on Meta: allowed and not allowed

Authorized GLP-1 ads still face Meta’s targeting rules and its Health and Wellness weight-loss rules.

Meta authorization for telehealth providers

Telehealth providers must be actively certified with LegitScript before they can apply to Meta. Meta’s Help Center lists the steps:

  1. Get LegitScript certification for each country you’ll target. LegitScript says certification qualifies you to “advertise on Google, Microsoft, Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, and more.”
  2. In Meta Business Suite, open Authorizations and verifications. Next to Prescription drugs ads, click View details, then Request authorization.
  3. Pick the country, choose Telehealth Provider and select Verify using LegitScript.
  4. Enter the certified URL, business name and ad accounts, then submit.

Meta says it notifies you right away. Authorization can be shared across ad accounts in one business portfolio and may be revoked if certification lapses. For fees, see what LegitScript certification costs.

Pre-launch checklist for GLP-1 prescription drug ads on Meta

Before a GLP-1 prescription drug ad goes to Meta review, confirm:

  • LegitScript certification is active for every targeted country
  • Meta authorization covers the exact ad account you launch from
  • The ad set excludes under-18s and uncertified countries
  • The disclaimer is in the ad
  • Creative passes the Health and Wellness rules
  • The landing page matches the ad (Meta’s rejection guide names landing pages)

What to do if Meta rejects a GLP-1 prescription drug ad

After Meta rejects a GLP-1 Rx ad, check certification, authorization, targeting and the disclaimer, then edit the ad, create a new one, or request another review. Meta’s rejected ad steps:

  1. Go to Business Support Home.
  2. Select the account or catalog with the rejected ads.
  3. Select the ads, ad sets or campaigns you believe were rejected incorrectly.
  4. Click Request review, then Submit.

Meta aims to decide within 48 hours. Deleting the ad first may cost you the right to request a review. If the ad is rejected again, you can’t request another review. A restriction on the whole ad account follows a different route, outlined in Meta ads for telehealth.
